Cooking & Calming…We are still at it!!

Hello! It’s been a while, but we have not slowed on the cooking…it’s sort of become an obsession!

What I am struggling with, is finding the time to write about it all, which makes me sad, because I love to write. I love to slow down, process the day, write out what what was amazing and what was challenging. But I have to tell you, the challenge is clear, my kids are busy and by busy I mean active, loud, messy, passionate, feisty…they are ALIVE in the best sense of the word! I have no extra time as I wrangle these adorable little beasts on the daily. And, thanks to my new fitness tracker, I have learned that I take over 10,000 steps every single day just “mom-ing about” and sleep for no more than 5 hours a night (my baby might be a vampire, but not for blood, for mom’s milk). These life stats sort of horrify me.

So, today Matty and I made these awful Paleo Carrot & Ginger muffins. Barf. I literally spit them out, just like my 3 year old would do. Background story…my oldest babe struggles with allergies, inattention, anxiety and some hyper-ness, so we have been working on cutting out the crap…refined sugar, dyes, gluten (sometimes) and just eating better in general. I have to tell you, it has helped! And, although I detested these so-called muffins, my kids, however, ate them like they were candy. What?!

So, on the calming front, we’ve been trying to do Head Space meditations every night (check out the Headspace App here). This guy, Andy, does these sweet, kid-oriented meditations that my children love. We’ve also been trying to lessen anxiety by listening to calming music whenever we can like on the way to school, afterwards, on the way to Jiu Jitsu, etc. (check out the tune, “Weightless” by Marconi Union, which is supposed to lessen anxiety by 65%!).

I’m not saying anything mind-blowing here, I just currently write this blog for my own sanity, but if you want this nasty cardboard muffin recipe, email me! ; )

Hang in there, mamas! Solidarity! XOXO

  1. Dear Lisa,

I love this! I also thought the muffins were quite good but I’ve always liked healthy tasting food except when I was pregnant when only white starchy things were palatable. Our lunch was amazing! I’m so impressed by all of the healthy food in your kitchen and hearing you and Matty cook together was amazing! I love that your boys will know how to make delicious, healthy food for themselves and your future daughter-in- laws will thank you. You’ll never have to worry about them not eating well. On another subject, I know it’s hard but I love the way you are requiring them to be independent and get there own sweater or pretzels or whatever the demand is at the time. I know it’s easier to just run and get what they need so they’ll be quiet but teaching them to be self sufficient is so important and will make your life better in the long run.

i hope you know what a great mom you are!!!

    Love, Mum
